Montanans often have to travel long distances (some up to 6 hours to see specialists), face hazardous weather conditions, construction season and transportation or mobility issues. In order to improve medical provider access and provide continuity of care for patients and others who have simple routine follow-ups, CPG implemented phone visits in 2017. Phone visits are appropriate for visits that don't require a physical exam or visual aid and the patient has seen the provider previously.
Additionally, CPG doesn't charge patients for phone visits. Payment is received using their quarterly Track 2 Comprehensive Primary Care Payments.
Since summer 2017, CPG has conducted 235 phone visits. Since implementing phone visits, CPG has seen its scores for two Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers & Systems (CAHPS) Survey quality measures rise.
