Community Medical Center has been providing obstetrical and newborn care in Missoula County longer than any other facility. In addition, it is one of only three facilities in the state offering high-risk obstetrical care and neonatal intensive care. It is a referral center, receiving mothers and infants from throughout western Montana and Idaho. Maternal and neonatal emergency transport services are available.

Community Medical Center is the only hospital in western Montana that has separate pediatric specific services with Community Children's providing the largest number of pediatric specialsts in Western Montana for both inpatient and outpatient care.

Community Medical Center's rehabilitation services is the largest, most comprehensive and longest-standing program of its kind in the state of Montana. It is noted for its brain and spinal cord injury, as well as stroke and orthopedic rehab programs. It includes a transitional day treatment program for brain injury survivors.

Location: Community Medical Center is located on a 45-acre campus in Missoula, Montana. Missoula is a thriving community of 90,000, nestled in the Rocky Mountains of western Montana between Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks. Missoula is the region's major medical and retail center, with a cultural diversity unique to a city of its size, as well as unlimited outdoor recreation for every season. It is home to The University of Montana. Missoula is the focal point of five valleys, and major north-south and east-west highways pass through. Missoula International Airport is served by daily flights on several national airlines.

Governance and History:  Community Medical Center partners with Billings Clinic, Montana’s largest hospital and a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network, and LifePoint Health.

In 1922 Dr. Will Thornton and Dr. Charles Thornton established the 42-bed Thornton Hospital. A Community non-profit corporation was formed in 1947, and the proceeds from a fund drive were used to purchase the existing private hospital facility, which was renamed Memorial Hospital. The name was changed to Missoula Community Hospital in 1960 and to Community Medical Center in 1988. The new hospital facility was opened in April 1972. Physician office centers were built in 1978, 1983, and 1995. An addition for inpatient comprehensive medical rehabilitation was added in 1990. An outpatient surgery center opened in 1999. The Community Women’s and Newborn Center was completed in 2010 and the comprehensive cancer center, Community Cancer Care, was opened in 2012 and offers medical oncology and radiation oncology.  Community Physician Group has over 60 medical providers and offers both primary and specialty care.

Insurance Plan Affiliations: Most insurance plans are accepted, and Community Medical Center is approved for participation in Medicare and Medicaid. Check with your insurance plan carrier to confirm your coverage.

Geographic Service Area: Community Medical Center provides its services to everyone. Sixty-five percent of all inpatients come from Missoula County, with another 21% from neighboring Ravalli (to the south) and Lake (to the north) Counties. Another 11% originate from other western Montana counties, with 1% from the rest of Montana and 2% from out of state.

Patients Served: Almost 5,000 inpatients are admitted to Community Medical Center each year. Over 151,000 outpatient services are provided annually, and more than 100,000 visits are made to our physicians.

Staff: Community Medical Center employs over 1,100 people with an annual payroll of over $65 million.

Medical Staff: Community Medical Center's Medical Staff includes 300 physicians and allied health staff.
