What is a Stroke?
A stroke is damage to the brain that occurs when a blood vessel in the brain is blocked or bursts. Without blood and the oxygen it carries, part of the brain starts to die.
Stroke Symptoms
During a stroke, every minute counts! Prompt treatment can reduce brain damage that a stroke can cause. By knowing the signs and symptoms of stroke, you can take quick action and perhaps save a life.
- Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body.
- Sudden confusion, trouble speaking, or difficulty understanding speech.
- Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes.
- Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance, or lack of coordination.
- Sudden severe headache with no known cause.
- Call 911 right away if you or someone else has any of these symptoms so evaluation & treatment can begin right away.
