For Reporters: Patient Privacy Policies and Procedures

One of our top priorities is to protect patient privacy and individually identifiable health information. We follow the privacy requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 and existing Montana law. Patients must give specific authorization for the disclosure of their protected health information.

In compliance with Community Medical Center policy, and to ensure federal patient privacy standards are upheld for all hospital and clinic patients and visitors, a staff member from the Marketing & Community Relations department must accompany all reporters and photographers while on any Community Medical Center property. This includes, Community Medical Center, Community Physician Group, Community Children's, Community FirstCare, Advanced Pain & Spine Institute of Montana, Lift Plastic Surgery, Billings Clinic Heart & Vascular, Dialysis Center, Cancer Center & Wound & Hyperbaric Center. Reporters, videographers, still photographers and other media interested in coming to Community Medical Center must first contact the Marketing & Community Relations department.
